Abstract
Background: A number of cardiovascular processes have been linked to cardiac chamber and cardiac size increase as a significant biomarker for predicting morbidity and death. There is no standardized technique for assessing and reporting cardiac chamber and cardiac size, despite the fact that non-electrocardiographically (ECG) gated multidetector CT is a frequently utilized cross-sectional imaging modality to assess numerous cardiothoracic diseases . Patients and Methods :Our study encompassed 106 patients. All patients were diagnosed with primary cancer and underwent computed tomography (CT) for either initial evaluation or subsequent monitoring. Cardiac measurements were obtained in CT and compared to Echocardiographic results done within two months Results: left cardiac chamber measurements had good correlation with echocardiographic measurements with a P value of 0.021 in differentiating between maximum cardiac width in patient with impaired vs normal cardiac function. Conclusion: our study confirms that non–ECG-gated CT provides reliable cardiac morphologic assessment comparable to echocardiography especially to detect cardiomyopathy in patients during their cancer treatment follow up.
