Abstract
Background: As the second most common cancer in males, prostate cancer contributes significantly to cancer-related deaths. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test and digital rectal examinations are used to identify it, albeit PSA screenings frequently produce unreliable results. Initial symptoms may include sexual dysfunction and urinary problems. The standard diagnostic method is biopsies, which are carried out under the direction of ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, they are risky and can result in infections and erectile dysfunction, which emphasizes the need for better biomarkers. Sarcosine and vascular endothelial growth factor are important metabolites associated with the progression of prostate cancer, and cancer cells show altered metabolism and angiogenesis involving these molecules. Understanding their expression may help to clarify the disease and provide potential treatment options. Aim of the study: to explore the predictive significance of sarcosine dehydrogenase (SARDH) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) for the early detection of prostate cancer. Methods: There will be 100 participants in this prospective case-control study (25 healthy people and 75 patients with prostate cancer). A review of each participant's medical history, a general checkup, and standard laboratory testing will also be performed. The Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbant Assay (ELISA) will be used to measure the levels of PSA, SARDH, and VEGF. Results: The results showed that the levels of Human Sarcosine Dehydrogenase in the control and prostate cancer cohorts differed significantly (P < 0.01). Human Sarcosine Dehydrogenase levels were 4.04 in the prostate cancer group and 1.48 in the healthy control group. Additionally, the levels of Human Endothelial Growth Factor in the prostate cancer group were 1089.76, whereas those in the control group were 759.35. These differences were significant (P < 0.05) between the two groups. Conclusion: Human sarcosine dehydrogenase and endothelial growth factor were shown to be higher in prostate cancer, indicating that they may be used as prostate cancer diagnostic indicators.
